How to install a gas dryer
At a real client's home in Grand Cayman, we installed a new gas-powered clothes dryer: connecting the yellow gas hose to the gas connection in the wall, turning the shut-off valve to the open position so the dryer can function, and repositioning the machine against the wall. These are the real job photos and the steps we took.
1. Pull the machine forward and check the connections
Before connecting anything, we pulled the dryer forward so the wall behind it was fully reachable, then checked what was already there: the gas connection and its shut-off valve, the exhaust path and the power outlet. Confirming these are present and in good condition is what makes the rest of the installation straightforward.

The laundry area before installation: the dryer pulled forward, the yellow gas hose on the floor. 2. Connect the yellow gas hose to the wall connection
This dryer is gas powered, so the first real connection was the yellow hose. We attached it to the gas connection piece in the wall and tightened it at both ends. At this stage the shut-off valve was still closed - the metal handle sat across the pipe, pointing to 3 o'clock - so no gas was flowing while we worked.

With the hose connected, we turned the metal handle on the shut-off valve from 3 o'clock up to 12 o'clock. In that vertical position the valve is open, which allows gas to reach the dryer so it can function. The handle being in line with the pipe is the visual check that the supply is on.

The hose connected at the valve, with the handle turned vertical to the open position. 4. Reposition the dryer against the wall
Once the dryer was connected and running, we moved it back into its correct position against the wall, level with the washing machine beside it. The gas hose and power cable were left with enough slack so the machine can still be pulled out for future maintenance.

The finished installation: the dryer and washing machine back in position against the wall.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a dryer installation cost?
Our standard rate is $125 KYD per hour. Larger jobs are quoted per project. The total depends on access behind the machine, the condition of the existing gas and electrical connections and any materials needed. Send us a photo of your laundry area for a quote specific to your setup.
How long does a dryer installation take?
A straightforward installation where the laundry area already has a gas connection with a shut-off valve, an exhaust duct and a suitable power outlet is normally completed in a single visit. The time needed depends on access behind the machine and the condition of the existing connections. We can advise on timing after seeing your setup; we do not promise a fixed turnaround before inspection.
What materials are needed?
For a gas dryer, the work involves a flexible gas hose and fittings suited to the machine and the wall connection, a shut-off valve at the wall, an exhaust path for the dryer's vent and a suitable power outlet. For an electric dryer, the machine needs the correct outlet for its plug and a clear exhaust path. If your laundry area is missing a suitable valve, vent or outlet, that additional work may need a qualified plumber or electrician.
What does a dryer installation involve?
We check the space and the existing connections, connect the gas hose from the wall connection to the machine, turn the shut-off valve to the open position so gas can reach the dryer, and confirm the exhaust path is clear. Once the machine is running, we reposition the dryer into its correct place against the wall, leaving the hose and cable with enough slack so the machine can be pulled out for future maintenance.
Can I install a dryer myself?
Some manufacturers provide DIY guidance, but a gas dryer is a different matter to an electric one. Gas connections that are fitted or sealed incorrectly can leak, and the machine is heavy and awkward to move into position. If you are not confident, have a competent person handle the gas connection, follow the machine manufacturer's installation instructions and make sure the dryer exhausts to the outside rather than into the room.
