What is the best microwave installation company in Grand Cayman?

Installing a microwave can be difficult due to their weight and size. If you need to install a new microwave in your home, then CALL GEORGE is the best company in Grand Cayman to help with this. Our team of trained techs have extensive experience with installing microwaves in a variety of homes across the Cayman Islands.

How to install a microwave

At a real client's home in Grand Cayman, we installed a new microwave into its cabinet opening above a wall oven. We started by testing the microwave by plugging it into the electrical outlet, then lifted it into position and connected it to the outlet that is behind the cabinet where the microwave goes. Once it was connected, we moved it into its final position. These are the real job photos and the steps we took.

  1. 1. Test the microwave before it goes up

We started by plugging the microwave into an outlet on the counter and checking it ran. Testing it there means a faulty unit or a missing part is found on the counter, where it is easy to deal with, rather than after the unit has been lifted into an overhead opening.

  2. 2. Lift the microwave into position

With the unit confirmed working, we lifted it into position above the wall oven. One of us carried the weight while the other guided it and reached into the opening, because a microwave at head height is too heavy and awkward for one person to place and hold at the same time.

  3. 3. Connect it to the outlet behind the cabinet

The outlet that feeds this microwave sits behind the cabinet where the unit goes, so one of us reached in to make the connection while the other kept the unit steady. Reaching the outlet before the unit is slid home is what makes the job a fitting rather than a second lift.

  4. 4. Move it into its final position and fit the trim

Once the microwave was connected, we moved it into its final position and fitted the outer trim frame and the door, screwing the lower edge in place so the unit sits square in the cabinet. Before we left we checked the microwave ran and the door closed and seated properly.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a microwave installation or mounting cost?

Our standard rate is $125 KYD per hour. Larger jobs are quoted per project. The total depends on whether the unit is a countertop model, a slide-in built-in or an over-the-range microwave, whether the cabinet opening and trim are already in place, and how easily the outlet behind the opening can be reached. Send us a photo of the opening and the unit for a quote specific to your setup.

How long does a microwave installation take?

Where the cabinet opening, mounting hardware and power outlet are already in place, the work is normally finished in a single visit. The time needed depends on the type of unit, whether the trim and door need fitting, and whether the outlet behind the opening can be reached without moving the cabinet or the appliance in front of it. We can advise on timing after seeing your setup; we do not promise a fixed turnaround before inspection.

What do I need before the installation?

Your microwave, the mounting hardware and trim it came with, and a cabinet opening built to the cut-out dimensions the manufacturer specifies. The unit also needs a reachable electrical outlet behind or beside the opening - if that outlet does not exist yet, or needs to be moved or replaced, that is electrical work for a licensed electrician and we will tell you when it is needed rather than improvise. Tell us the make and model when you book so we can check what the unit calls for.

What does a microwave installation involve?

We test the microwave plugged into an outlet first, so a faulty unit is found on the counter rather than after it is fitted. Then we lift it into position, connect it to the outlet behind the cabinet where the microwave goes, and once it is connected we move it into its final position and fit the trim and door. Before we leave, we check the unit runs and the door closes and seals properly.

Can I install a microwave myself?

On many units the electrical side is simply plugging in, which is why people attempt it alone. The difficulty is the weight and the position: an over-the-range or built-in microwave has to be lifted to head height and held there while it is slid onto its tracks, which is where dropped units, damaged cabinets and back injuries come from. The trim and door fitting is also fiddly. If you do it yourself, get a second pair of hands, check the cut-out dimensions before you commit, and never defeat the plug or run the unit on an extension lead.
